Tending to the Land to Serve you Fresh Produce and Food
It was originally Emily's dream to start a farm. The idea first started when she took a class in college about food systems in America. The information rocked her world on everything she thought she knew about food and farming. She wanted to learn more. This led her to volunteer with the wwoofing community (World Wide Organization of Organic Farmers) in Alaska, Montana, Oregon, Colorado and Washington. She was inspired by farmers who were growing food for their communities and living sustainably. Having always had a passion for food and cooking, it seemed fitting that she would pursue farming to get to the root of her passion (no pun in intended). After meeting Brandon, he also adopted this dream. They bought a funky log cabin on 5 acres of land in White Salmon where they are currently creating their farm.
It is important to us that while we are using our land to grow food for our community and ourselves, that we are improving it. Conventional agriculture has a Major impact on climate change in our country. The use of over tilling, monocropping and use of pesticides as well as non-organic fertilizers are unsustainable methods of farming and contribute to the destruction of soil and the release of carbon into the atmosphere. At Sunflower Family Farm, we use very low till, cover cropping, crop rotation, organic amendments, use of animals as well as planting perennials to help enrich our environment. By using these farming methods, we are reducing our environmental impact and increasing our lands ability to store carbon.
You can find our farmstand on the corner of Ramsay Ln and Tunnel Rd 15 minutes up Snowden Rd. We are open select Sundays where we sell: herbs, vegetables, eggs, sourdough bread, bagels, focaccia, and various baked goods. We created the farm stand as a way for us to get our farm goods directly to our neighbors. When the deer ate most of our produce in our second year of having the farm stand, we decided to get creative and start offering more baked goods. It was a hit! We also found that we really enjoyed leaning into our love for cooking and being creative with what we made. We hope in the future to create a more permanent structure and to expand what we sell to be a more well rounded local food hub.

If you believe in what we are doing and want to help us with expansion, we would love to put your resources to good use. Please note that all donation money goes to farm infrastructure to help us keep up with the forever costs of expansion. Thank you!
We love our customers, so feel free to visit our farm stand when we are open. We are also available for farm tours if you want to see our space and what we are doing!
